Keynote Speaker - Dr. Paul Imhoff
|
Dr. Paul Imhoff is a dynamic leadership expert whose passion for education is both inspirational and infectious. His life and career are a testament to the transformative power of educators.
Currently, Dr. Imhoff serves as the Government Relations Director for the Buckeye Association of School Administrators (BASA). His extensive career includes roles as a high school English teacher, junior high language arts and reading teacher, superintendent of Mariemont City Schools, and assistant superintendent of Madeira City Schools. Before his current position at BASA, he was the superintendent of Upper Arlington Schools in central Ohio. Dr. Imhoff holds a Doctor of Education degree from Miami University, a Master of Science in Education from the University of Dayton, and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Miami University. He is also a recipient of the distinguished alumni award from Watkins Memorial High School in Pataskala, Ohio. In 2018, Dr. Imhoff was honored as Ohio Superintendent of the Year. He has served as chairperson for the Alliance for High Quality Education and president of the Central Ohio Superintendents’ Association. Additionally, he is a founding member of The Stand Project, an Upper Arlington initiative aimed at preventing substance abuse. Dr. Imhoff and his wife, Melissa, reside in Lewis Center. Their children, Lindsey and Tyler, are proud graduates of Upper Arlington Schools. |

Watch Out! These Kids Can Work! - Aubree Horning, Marlington Local Schools

Learn how to provide students with the opportunity to learn through work experience in this session. Our district's Elementary STEAM Club students and Middle School Volunteer STEAM Lab Workers have established themselves by accomplishing projects in years past. Observing the younger students create items for the older students and adults in the district and community is fun to watch. They take great pride in their work. This year, we introduced a Work Order board where staff members fill out a form, and students select the order to work on and complete it by the designated date. This approach helps students gain skills and experiences that will be useful throughout their lives. This allows students to tackle and solve problems that they could face in the real world, empowers students to apply classroom learning to real-life situations, and engages them in community service to help their local needs.

Cheap Electrical STEM Projects for Your Classroom - Betty Lise Anderson, The Ohio State University

Come and build an electrical widget. We have developed a series of hands-on engineering activities (mostly electrical) that can be done in an hour or less for very low cost, around $1 per child. Some examples are flashlights, motors, and speakers. At this session, we will build one or more of them together. We have projects for K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 10-12. We'll show you how to get all the instructions and PowerPoints for your own use. Dr. Anderson was awarded the National Science Board Public Service Award in 2022 for her engineering outreach activities.
